What is a PhotoFacial™?

A PhotoFacial™ is a treatment that is intended to rejuvenate and improve your skin. It involves a series of gentle light pulses that improves the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin. It eliminates redness, broken capillaries, and brown spots, as well as fine wrinkles, large pores and facial and neck redness and flushing.  A PhotoFacial™ is a simple, quick, and no downtime treatment that leaves your skin healthy and rejuvenated.

PhotoFacials are unique and new therapies based on intense pulsed light or IPL. High intensity light is used to penetrate the skin to treat brown spots, age spots, vascular irregularities, and redness. Essentially, they can clear up and even out a ruddy or irregular complexion resulting in more even and picture perfect skin. They require no down time and just a few minutes to complete. Your results are long lasting and extremely safe.

What does a PhotoFacial treat?
A PhotoFacial diminishes many types of brown, red, and vascular discolorations of the skin as well modestly improving fine wrinkles. Some of the problems it can treat include age or liver spots, fine wrinkles, facial flushing, redness, broken capillaries, and, hemangiomas, freckles, minor sun damage, port wine stains, minor varicose veins, spider veins, and some birth marks. It is the only proven therapy to help with redness and flushing associated with Rosacea. It also can diminishes pore size and treats mild acne scars, giving you smoother, healthier skin.

How does a PhotoFacial work?
Unlike a laser, PhotoFacials utilize a special apparatus that transmits multiple wavelengths of light to penetrate and treat the layers of your skin. Gentle pulses of light are emitted on the skin and absorbed by the particular discolored spots and areas to fade or destroy them. Specific settings and energies are required to treat different problems. Dr. Patel will evaluate your skin and your goals and generate a personalized treatment plan for success.

Advantages of a PhotoFacial™?
PhotoFacial treatments were developed to consistently and predictably improve the visible appearance of the skin with little or no down time. This Intense Pulsed Light Therapy gives you the benefits of a medium depth laser or chemical peel or other type of resurfacing/rejuvenation procedure without the blisters, burns and long recovery time.  With no time off from work or play, you can have glowing, smooth, blush-free skin with finer lines, an even texture, and more youthful-looking skin. There is absolutely no down time and no dramatic after care other than your regular skin care regimen and facial SPF sun protection. PhotoFacial™ treatments were developed for the active, busy patient for whom time and appearance are important factors.

How much improvement will I see with a PhotoFacial?
Dramatic improvements are easily seen even after the first treatment, but most people require several treatments to get near complete resolution of their problem areas. Dr. Patel can give you a better estimate of how you will do once you have a private consultation to evaluate your skin.

Am I eligible for treatment?
Almost everyone is eligible and almost all skin types can be treated safely by a trained professional like Dr. Patel. Since this is a light based therapy you should not be on medications that limit your skin’s ability to heal, or increase the risk of sun exposure complications. You should limit any excessive sun exposure before and after treatment as your skin is healing from your treatment.

Does a PhotoFacial hurt?

Treatments often feel like a rubber band snap on the skin and almost everyone tolerates this extremely well. Most patients do not require pre-treatment, but a topical cream can occasionally be applied prior to the treatment eliminating most discomfort.

What can I expect at each PhotoFacial treatment?
Treatments are a snap! They usually last less than thirty minutes. You will need to make sure that you have not recently tanned and you don’t need any makeup as you’ll need to remove it for the procedure. With some soothing gel, the gentle pulses of light will treat your face one area at a time and under a millisecond. Once every area is treated you are ready to go and may have a slight pink color to your skin as if you had a sunburn some time ago. You can go back to work, the mall, or anywhere you need!

How do I get started?
During your consultation, Dr. Patel will evaluate your skin and discuss your goals prior to creating a plan for treating your skin complaints. He will form a personalized plan with you and then you are on your way to healthier and even picture perfect skin!
